CHANGING MY STARS: The North Star Pathway is a guided journey from Renting to Owning. We are a Christian nonprofit, walking alongside married, traditional two-parent working families dreaming of homeownership. Through mentored financial coaching, sweat-equity home renovation, and a guided 5–7 year pathway, we help families build credit and savings, finding the stability of home ownership. Generational wealth is created.

The Process:
Changing My Stars (CMS) works with traditional families to turn tired houses into forever homes. CMS purchases fixer-upper houses, remodels those houses with the help of local volunteers, contractors, donations, and a CMS Family. Once an occupancy permit is provided, the family moves in with a lease/purchase agreement.
The Family:
A Changing My Stars family is made up of a husband and wife, with children (or children on the way). The family would love to own a home but lack a downpayment or credit score to make their dream a reality.
The Lease/Purchase Agreement:
The lease purchase agreement is based upon a family’s ability to pay. The monthly rent is reviewed on a yearly basis. Typically 85% of their rent is set aside in an escrow account.
Home Ownership:
By year 7 the family should be able to attain a mortgage. They can purchase the house they have been renting (based upon independent appraisal) or purchase another property.

FINANCIAL GOALS
Changing My Stars goal is to help financially struggling families GAIN CONTROL of their finances. Our dream is for revitalized communities where families:
*maintain the property they live in
*participate in their local government
*acquire generational wealth as defined by home ownership
CAREER OR EDUCATIONAL GOALS
It's often said "education is the key to success". Changing My Stars believes in this thought. We focus on managing finances, but we can also help family members look at their individual strengths and weaknesses. Is there a family member looking for a degree or certification, but doesn't know quite know what the next steps are? Can a job turn into a career or even a business ownership? The volunteers of Changing My Stars come from diverse life experiences, and are willing to share the lessons they have learned.
FAMILY
GOALS
Changing My Stars is available to help with setting Family Goals. Potential goals: Children or teens improving school attendance and/or performance
All family members spending time away from mobile devices.
Setting routines, from making beds, to mom or dad reading with a child, to prepping meals for the week.
Setting a budget, individual and for the family.
Family Goals and Financial Goals meet when planning for a family celebration or the purchase of new furniture.
Sometimes an unexpected event or set back will change the goal.
Every family is different; every family member is unique.
Changing My Stars believes setting budgets and other life goals is the key to success. CMS shares the acronym of S.M.A.R.T Goals
( Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timely). CMS members are available to help our families set AND achieve these goals. Some goals for the family unit; some goals are for the individual family members.
